WSiC News: Special Issue on Academic Mothering During COVID-19

Claire Sisco-King

Claire Sisco King is thrilled to announce that the first issue of WSIC volume 45 is a special issue, guest edited by Sarah Blithe, from University of Nevada, Reno, on academic mothering during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The issue includes essays about such subjects as the use of digital media to create community and perform academic research while working at home, the affordances and limitations of "podding" practices for imagining new kinship structures, the circulation of memes as a response to the traumas of mothering during the pandemic, the gendered and classed labor cultures imagined in parenting newsletters, and thick descriptions of the politics and affects of being an academic mother during the interarticulated traumas of anti-Black racism and COVID-19.

In her final year as Editor, Sisco King would also like to express her gratitude to the WSIC Editorial Board and reviewers, WSIC authors, the ORWAC Executive Board, and the members of ORWAC for their contributions to and support of the journal over the last few years. She has found her time with WSIC to be an honor and a pleasure.
